The Next Nintendo? The Rise of Smart Phone Gaming
21.01.10
Smart phone games run the gamut of genres, but here are a few interesting categories:
Location-Based Games
The newer smart phones have built-in GPS, and location-based games like “ Turf Wars ” (iPhone) and “ Parallel Kingdom ” (iPhone and Android) make this feature a core part of gameplay. In “Turf Wars,” you compete with other local “mobsters” for control of territory. “Parallel Kingdom” is a medieval role-playing game played in a virtual world based on GPS data.
Game-like social networks such as foursquare (iPhone, Android and Blackberry) and Gowalla (iPhone, with Android coming soon) are also starting to pop up. Foursquare asks players to check-in at locations they visit to earn points, acquire badges and leave tips for other visitors. Some locations, such as bars and restaurants, will give free food to the mayor (the person who checks in most frequently).
[From Jesus Soto] Hello, I am a long time gamer. My name is Jesus Soto, and I am currently a Pro Pantech Matrix (C820). I have Palm Pilots, Motorollas, Nokia's ownership, consoles Sony Ericsson, LGS, and all kinds of games from the original Nintendo Entertainment System to the super-portable Sony PSP. I love all the games, even the simple types.I have a lot of cartridges NES game that I break out once in a while and play, but it annoys me that I blow in the cartridges and the best of them on tap, just to work them, and if they freeze if someone bumps it, forget it, no saves NES. Then I found a solution to play the same games on my phone. I have an application that is invoked, pocket nester plus and loaded them into my phone. There are many of these applications out there for many devices and I have used different versions on different devices. They are called emulators, and they use files with the name of Rome (such as CD-ROMs), are fundamental core files of the games. You have to create a backup of your own cartridge or the cartridge when the file from one computer, but if you are a player, you already know and those who rock. The interesting part is that I do now to lose my game, if someone pushes my device, the game by pressing concern will be stored on the Options menu and select Save state to.Even if I use I can still open the ROM and load status of the nearby (from which I rescued start), it certainly better to write with a piece of paper with the TV, store codes. All in all, I will never throw away my older systems, their native controller and the good times they have taught me a lifetime, but it's good to know that they are still played at home or away.
