Nintendo says Wii shipments have now passed 67 million, but sales ...

Looks like Mario was not enough to make a spectacular holiday season Nintendo. Nintendo reported lackluster results for the first nine months of the year, with both profits and sales fell because of recession, a strong yen, hardware prices and weakening demand.
The result was 2.1 billion U.S. dollars for the first nine months to 31 December, from 9.4 percent the previous year. Revenues for the first nine months were $ 13.1 billion, up 23 percent over the previous year. While these comparisons are disappointing, the company is still spanking his rivals Sony and Microsoft in the video game console wars.
Nintendo has no quarterly figures. The nine-month figures are not surprising. Nintendo had to release a relatively weak game line-up in the fall with the retreading New Super Mario Bros. game than just first class. But everything is relative, of course. A poor season means that controls for the Nintendo Wii games, only the top-ten list of best selling games (six out of ten titles) in the U.S. in December.
The Japanese company said it has now shipped more than 67 million Wii game consoles and 510 million games. The DS handheld has now more than 125 million units sold and 688 million games. These are obviously impressive numbers. But they are not enough for Nintendo optimistic.
The company left unchanged its forecast for the fiscal year. Overall, it is expected to sell 20 million Nintendo Wii consoles in the fiscal year ending 31st March 2010, compared to 25.9 million units in the previous year. DS sales are expected to be 30 million DS games are expected to top 150 million hit.
