Technology geeks have spent months speculating whether Apple would release a tablet computer.

Now that the iPad has been unveiled, geeks have another, less exciting question: Why would I need this?

The answer: You don't.

Not surprisingly after such a long hype cycle, the reaction of readers and many tech journalists online was negative to the iPad.

Most technology enthusiasts have laptops and smartphones that can fill their needs, and many were hoping for a device that could replace the laptop. But the iPad is a speedy iPod Touch (an iPhone without a phone) with a 9.7-inch screen and some other minor improvements.

While the $499 starting price will allow many geeks an excuse to buy the device, I believe the iPad could follow in the steps of the Nintendo Wii.

Before it was released, the Wii was hammered by the gaming press for its basic graphics and simple games. But it was a huge hit with consumers because it provided a new but simple motion-controlled gaming experience.

A look into the past: Nintendo 64

Nintendo 64 was one of the best console games of all time.

Mario 64 was fantastic, Nintendo 64 Controller motivated the Xbox controller, and you could save up the cartridge! The cartridges were fantastic because they are the same size as a small external HD is today.

Minus a few games, I remember the owner / rental, play, and against any Nintendo 64 / E-Flex Geek

4.7 / 5 for its time - the playstation would be 5 / 5 - and Nintendo 64 in those days would be 3.5 / 5.
